El Paso, Texas - With just two events, the women's and men's hammer throws, in the books at the C-USA Outdoor Championships, the Memphis track and field teams have three scoring performances under their belts. Gail Lee logged a third-place showing, while J.D. Erickson and Susan King each claimed top-six finishes in Thursday's sole individual event.

Lee recorded a throw of 178-02" (54.30m) to log her third-place effort, missing a runner-up finish by just six inches and claiming six points for the Lady Tigers

King followed with a sixth-place showing, registering a personal-best toss of 172-02" (52.48m) and collecting three more points for the U of M women.

Erickson, the lone Tiger competitor in the men's hammer, finished fourth with a mark of 174-08" (53.25m) to claim five points for the Memphis men.

UTEP's Nina Schvedoff won the women's hammer with a throw of 183-10" (56.04m), while East Carolina's Eric Frasure blew away the men's field by nearly 30 feet with a throw of 211-01" (64.34m).

The nine points for the Lady Tigers leaves them in second place after one event, while the Tigers are in fourth with Erickson's five points.

Each of the three U of M athletes to compete on day one are just beginning their C-USA Championships, as Erickson and King are still to participate in both the shot put on Friday and the discus on Saturday, while Lee is the favorite in tomorrow's shot put.

The second day of the meet is slated to get underway at 10 a.m. (CST) with the completion of the multi-events, while field events are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (CST) to be followed by running events at 6:30 p.m. (CST).
