CHARLOTTE, N.C. -The University of Memphis men's and Women's Track teams will compete this week at the 2003 Conference USA Track and Field Championship on Thursday-Saturday, May 15-17 at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center in Charlotte, N.C.

TCU's men are the defending league champions and have finished among the top five at the NCAA Championships three times. On the women's side, Houston, who is coached by two-time Olympian and former world record holder in the 100 meters Leroy Burrell, is the defending team champion

The meet kicks off on Thursday with the majority of the day dedicated to the decathlon and heptathlon. The men's and women's hammer and men's and women's 10,000-meter run will also be held. The hammer begins at 3:00, while the 10,000 is slated to begin at 7:45.

Field events will continue throughout the day on Friday as well as the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon. Preliminary rounds for running events will also be held. The women's 1,500 starts events on the track at 4:30. Teams will end the day at 8:25 with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.

The meet wraps up on Saturday. Field events begin with the men's high jump at 10:00. Running events start at 1:00 with the women's 4x100 relay. Finals will be held for the rest of the afternoon, concluding with the men's 4x400 at 3:55. Presentations of the team championship trophies and individual awards will begin at 4:15.

Last year, Memphis had one male and one female athlete win event titles at C-USA Outdoors. Sophomore Lisa-Marie Hyman (Triple Jump) and sophomore Greg Doughty (Javelin) both won event titles for Memphis in 2002. This year several Tiger athletes will compete for event titles and the Men's team, which placed third in C-USA Indoors this past March, is eyeing a top-three team finish at outdoors. Athletes: Mate Nemeth (3000m Steeplechase); Gaute Myklebust (Discus, Shot Put); Adam Martin (Shot Put, Hammer); Adam Didyk (5000m); Istvan Kerekjarto 1500M, 800m); Ferenc Bekesi (800m); Lisa-Marie Hyman (Triple Jump) and Keenan Gibson (100m, 200m) are amongst the top competitors in their events this year representing Memphis.

Daily admission is $5 for adults and $2 for youth 17-and-under. All Conference USA students will be admitted free with their university's ID. There are no packages for the weekend.
