Track and Field Heads to C-USA Championships

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis men's and women's track and field teams will be competing at the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week, held from Thursday, May 15 - Saturday, May 17 at Kidd Field in El Paso, Texas, hosted by UTEP.
The meet will begin on Thursday with opening events for the decathlon, heptathlon, men's and women's hammer, along with the men's and women's 10,000 meter run.
Friday will kick-off the prelims for all the other events with the decathlon and heptathlon running in the morning session. The afternoon session starting at 4 p.m. MT, will begin with women's shot put. Running events start at 5:30 p.m. MT with the women's 1500 meter run going first.
Championship saturday will begin at 1 p.m. MT, with the women's discus and running events will start at 5:00 p.m. MT with the women's 4x100 meter relay kicking things off. Thee meet will be followed by an awards ceremony.
The men's team will be defending their C-USA crown as last year they came away with the teams' first championship title. Amaechi Oselukwue will be looking to repeat as the 110 hurdle champion, while Steffen Nerdal will look to win the hammer throw two years in a row.
The women finished eighth at the championships last year. Susan King enters the meet as the No. 1 contender in the women's shot put and No. 3 in the nation. After redshirting last season, King and Sivan Aballi are at the top of the shot put charts going into the weekend, sitting in the one and two spot. Charlotte Abrahamsen and Chen Edri are tied in the No. 3 spot in the high jump with a height of 1.70 meters. Edri placed second in the high at last years championships.
