MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - Junior thrower Steffen Nerdal was voted to the ESPN The Magazine All-Academic Second Team it was announced by CoSIDA on Thursday. This is Nerdal's first academic honor from CoSIDA.

A junior management major with a 3.47 GPA, Nerdal represented the University of Memphis in the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing sixth overall in the men's hammer throw after finishing fourth in the event in the NCAA Mideast Regional.

Nerdal, a native of Bergen, Norway, holds a 3.47 GPA in management and holds the school and conference meet record in the indoor weight throw (22.46 meters), which he set in 2009. Nerdal also holds the school and C-USA meet record in the outdoor hammer throw, 68.21 meters, which he set in 2008.
