AUSTIN,Texas-University of Memphis senior distance runner Mate Nemeth advanced to Saturday's finals of the 3000m Steeplechase by placing fifth in his heat in Thursday's prelims at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Texas at Mike A. Myers Track Stadium.

Nemeth ran a 9:00.75, the 10th best time in Thursday's prelims. Ian Dobson of Stanford won Nemeth's heat with a time of 8:56.99. Ohio State's Aaron Fisher turned in the best prelim time at 8:46.99. Fourteen of the 26 competitors, including Nemeth will compete in Saturday's finals at 7:25 p.m.
