MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Toby Reep has been hired as the new University of Memphis cross country/track and field assistant coach, announced today by head coach Kevin Robinson. Reep will be responsible for the men's and women's cross country teams, as well being responsible for the long distance runners.

"We're excited to have Toby on board. I think he brings a lot of enthusiasm and motivation to this position," said Robinson. "He is a proven recruiter and a solid coach. I think he is going to be able to help bring our distance program up to a level that corresponds with the rest of our program and make us a championship caliber team."

Reep competed at South Plains College, in Levelland, Texas. While at South Plains he was a member of the cross country team that earned the National Junior College Athletic Association(NJCAA) Cross Country National Championship in 1997. He later transferred to West Texas A&M, where he graduated in 2003 with a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology.

Following his running career, Reep moved on to the University of North Texas serving as the distance coach from 2004-06. After a two-year stint he joined the University of Louisiana at Monroe track program. While with the Warhawks, Reep served as the distance coach for the past two years (2006-08), before arriving at the U of M.

Reep is married to the former Alysha Hensley, who is a physical therapist.
