Willcox Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

MEMPHIS, TENN.- University of Memphis track and field athlete Tom Willcox was named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Men's 2012 All-Academic Track and Field Team, Tuesday. Willcox is among 431 student-athletes representing 148 institutions that compose the group.
"I'm very proud of Tom's academic and athletic accomplishments," head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. "I look forward to seeing him continue to excel in the classroom and in competition."
The Coquitlam, British Columbia native met the indoor qualifying standard with his season-best mark of 18.91m (62'00.50") in the weight throw ranking number 59 overall in NCAA Division I competition. In the classroom, Willcox carried a cumulative GPA of 3.53 majoring in public relations.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA Proof of Performance list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
