MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis' head track and field and cross country coach Kevin Robinson announced the release of the 2011 U of M cross country schedule on Thursday.

"We have a nice combination of local meets, as well as the ultra-competitive Chile Pepper Festival," Coach Robinson said. "We have a talented group of runners who will look to improve upon last season's performances."

Assistant coach Doug Clark is entering his third season at the helm of the cross country runners and returns sophomore James Maglasang, who was the top finisher in each meet in 2010 for the Memphis men's program. Furthermore, Maglasang finished first at the Rhodes Invite 8K in a time of 25:40, the Tigers' first win since Mate Nemeth won the 2004 Conference USA Cross Country Championships.

Meanwhile, the women's program is coming off a year that ended with a trip to the NCAA South Regional for the first time in five years.

"I think the schedule is set up well to allow a high level of competition, along with appropriate amounts of rest and recovery between races," Coach Robinson added. "It should be an exciting season."

The upcoming campaign begins right in the Bluff City at the Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic, hosted by Christian Brothers University, on Saturday, Sept. 3.
