MEMPHIS, TENN- Tigers-cross country kicks-off the 2012 season, Saturday, with the Memphis Brooks Twilight Classic at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The Memphis women take to the trail first at 8:40 p.m. CT, followed by the men at 9:20 p.m. CT.

"I don't know much about the teams we'll face other than their reputation," cross country coach Doug Clark said. "We are definitely improved on the men's and women's teams. This meet will be good test to see where we are and to help get our freshmen's feet wet."

The Tigers return a strong group of runners from a 2011 squad that picked team victories and qualified for the NCAA South Regional. Among the men is junior James Maglasang and sophomore Daniel Kuhman.

In 2011, Maglasang posted five top-15 finishes. The Louisville, Ky., native placed eighth at the Memphis Brooks Twilight Classic (20:20.25) and picked up an individual win at the Rhodes Invitational (25:05.00). Maglasang earned All-C-USA third team honors for his 15th-place showing at the C-USA Championships (24:39.00).

Kuhman posted five top-25 finishes, including three in the top-10. The Ohio native took second place at the Rhodes Invitational with a time of 25:13.00 and was the team's top finisher at the NCAA South Regional with at time of 32:25.00.

For the women, senior Louisa Lingley is back in the mix for her final run with the Tigers. Last season, Lingley took third at the Rhodes Invitational (22:02.00), and ran a personal-best time of 18:09.40 at the C-USA Championships. Lingley along with teammates Meagan Nichols, Erica Owen, Jenny Johnston, Nandia Taylor and Alisha Fitch helped to record the squad's first team win since 2005 when they won the Rhodes Invitational.
