Memphis Cross Country Set for Commodore Classic
Sept. 13, 2013
NASHVILLE, Tenn.-University of Memphis cross country squads will return to action, on Saturday, at the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University. The men's team will run the 8K course at 9:00 a.m. (CT) followed by the women on the 5K course at 10:00 am (CT).
"When we had in our first meet, we had only been practicing together for about a week," cross country/distance coach Doug Clark said. "We've had another two weeks now in this last training cycle to become more of a cohesive unit and I think we can look forward to a little bit better performance than what we had at the Memphis Twilight.
The meet will feature 31 teams in both the men's and women's races including, among others, USTFCCCA South Region foes Mississippi State and Ole Miss. The event will be held at Percy Warner Park on the Vaughn's Gap Cross Country Course, a trail the Tigers competing there the last four seasons.
"It's a course that especially our older people are very familiar with," Clark said. "Our younger people aren't as familiar with it, but they're able to get feedback and input from the older people about what to expect from the course. I think it's a good situation to be able to compare to past years."
The meet will be the Tigers' second of the 2013 season. Results from the Commodore Classic will be posted on GoTigersGo.com as they become available.
