Memphis Cross Country Teams to Host Invitational
Oct. 11, 1999 Memphis, Tenn. - The University of Memphis men's and women's cross country teams will host their second home meet of the season, Saturday, at Shelby Farms. The women's 5 K run begins at 9:30 with the men's 8K to follow at 10:15. The women's race will feature Memphis, Ole Miss, Southern Mississippi, Western Kentucky, Arkansas State, West Alabama, Central Arkansas and Jackson State. Sophomore Lilly Lebron (Kew Gardens, NY/Martin Luther) has posted the best 5K time of the Lady Tigers this season, covering the course in 19:34.00 at the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Ill. The men's race will feature Conference-USA pre-season favorite Southern Mississippi along with Memphis, Ole Miss, Western Kentucky, Idaho, Arkansas State, Arkansas-Little Rock, West Alabama, Central Arkansas, Jackson State and cross-town opponent Christian Brothers. Memphis junior Christian Schmallegger (Leoben, Austria) is off to a good start this season, posting two top 10 finishes and two more top 20 finishes in the first four meets of the season. Schmallegger has dropped his season-best time to 25:05 for the 10K run. This will be the final meet for both teams before the Conference USA meet, which will be hosted by UNC-Charlotte, October 30th.
