Memphis Men's Cross Country Team Finishes Fifth

Memphis, Tenn.- - The men's team was again led by junior Christian Schmallegger (Leoben, Austria) en route 111 points for a fifth-place finish at the University of Memphis Invitational at Plough Park, Saturday.
Schamallegger finished eighth in 26:14.13 while teammate Balsz Laszlo rounded out the top 10 in 26:47.64. Tiger Kevin Foltz (Flushing, MI/Flushing) finished 18th in 27:18.83, while Robert Goode (Mason, OH/WM Mason) and Lee Eilert (Germantown, TN) finished 37th and 38th, respectively, to complete the Tiger scoring.
Southern Mississippi, a team nationally-ranked and favored to win Conference-USA, placed four runners in the top five to capture the team title with 21 points. Jackson State's David Rop won the individual title with a 24:40.73 time for the 8K course.
The University of Idaho (58), Arkansas-Little Rock (79), Jackson State (100), Mississippi (150), Arkansas State (166), West Alabama (227) and Belhaven University (234) completed the field.
The men's team is off until the Conference USA Championships in two weeks at UNC-Charlotte.
