Memphis Track and Field Readies for Season Kickoff
Nov. 29, 2012
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-The University of Memphis track and field teams kickoff the 2012-2013 indoor season, on Friday, at the BSC Ice Breaker. The Tigers return experienced men's and women's squads that each took overall fourth place finishes at last season's Conference USA Indoor Championships. "I feel pretty good about where we are at," head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. "What we have done, I feel like, is created at team that is very deep in most of the events. We have weapons that can contribute in most of the events we are going to field this year." The meet begins Friday at 3:15 p.m. (CT) with the men's weight throw followed by women. Saturday's action starts at 9 a.m. (CT) with a full slate of track and field events beginning with the 60m preliminaries. Results from both days will be posted on GoTgiersGo.com as they are made available. Experience Counts For the women, the roster includes 25 returning athletes that hauled in a combined seven All-C-USA performances and medals during the 2012 season. Five of the returners qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Regional, including two USA Jr. National qualifiers, hurdlers Maya Williamson and Bronte' Smith. No Stranger to the Venue This will once again be the first of three trips to the state-of-the-art facility during the indoor season. The Tigers are scheduled to return in February for the Samford Vulcan Invitational and Conference USA Indoor Championships. Up Next
