HOUSTON, Texas. - The University of Memphis women's basketball team picked up their first Conference USA road win of the season in a come-from-behind 74-69 victory, Friday.

It was all Houston early in the game, with the Lady Cougars sprinting out to a 21-6 lead in the first eight minutes of the game. But the Lady Tigers kept looking to their bench to find the chemistry to begin chipping away at the Houston lead, with the lineup of Kaneshi Hart, Victoria Crawford, Princess Swilley, Jordie Soso and Kalara McFadyen starting to chip away at the lead, narrowing it to a 40-32 Houston lead at the half.

"The bench has really been the key to our having the run we're having," Head Coach Joye-Lee McNelis said. "Kaneshi and Victoria were the spark we needed off the bench. And we didn't dominate one particular time in the game, but it was a gradual chipping away."

The Lady Tigers narrowed the lead to four at 44-40 with 15:56 to play and the Houston lead fluctuated between three and four for the next couple of minutes in the game. But a Soso block of a Chandi Jones field goal attempt bounced to Swilley, who drove the length of the court to tie the game at 56 apiece for the Lady Tigers' first tie of the game.

Houston used a field goal from Oliver and a free-throw from Bush to go up 60-56 with 5:35 to play. It looked like Houston was going to pull away when Simpson broke loose behind the Lady Tiger defense for a lay-up, but the Lady Tigers dug in and responded.

"You could see for a minute there when we decided that we could win this game and were not going to give up," McNelis said.

Back-to-back buckets from Soso gave the Lady Tigers their first lead of the game 64-63 with 2:03 to play. Houston tried to answer back when Harris two free throws to pull Houston within one, 68-67, but Memphis would use free-throw shooting and rebounding to hold the Lady Cougars off and pick up their first conference road win of the season.

Crawford came off the bench and scored 20 points with eight rebounds. Three other Lady Tigers hit the double-digits, including 15 from Shannon Hamp, 14 from Soso and 10 from Hart.

Jones led all players with 30 points, while Shondra Bush added 12 and Kiemona Harris added 11 points and 11 rebounds in Houston's seventh C-USA loss of the season.

Memphis continues its road trip at TCU, Sunday with a 2 p.m. game.
