Jackson Leads Lady Tigers To Victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis Lady Tigers basketball team cruised to a 82-64 win Friday night over the Mississippi All-Stars, in their last exhibition meeting before the start of the regular season, after enduring over an hour delay while waiting for the Mississippi All-Stars to show up. The game started at 8:15 because the All-Star van broke down in Mississippi.
Sophomore forward Lauren Jackson led the Lady Tigers, shooting 9-for-12 on the night for a total of 24 points. Jackson was also 3-for-3 from three-point land and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe, in 31 minutes of action.
Junior guard Tiffany Collins came off the bench and was the second leading scorer for the Lady Tigers going 4-for-5 and ending up with 11 points. Junior forward Kelly Herron passed out seven assists and led the team with three steals in 27 minutes of action.
For the Mississippi All-Stars it was former Ole Miss standout Tarsha Bethley leading the way with 19 points and also a team-high 11 boards. Also, in double figures were Sherlander Lewis and Sherrie Surney with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Lady Tigers went into halftime leading 36-24 and ending the second half with 46 points to seal the win. The Lady Tigers as a team shot 50-percent from the field while the All-Stars shot just 29.7-percent from the field.
Memphis opens the regular season next week on the road with a 5 p.m. meeting with Ole Miss in Oxford on Nov. 19. The Lady Tigers will return to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Nov. 22 when they host Austin Peay State.
