Freshman guard Ariel Hearn
It was important to get a win, it didn't matter who we beat, a victory is a victory, so we're just going to celebrate this win and get ready for our next game.
In practice, coach just talked about defense and keeping them out of the paint and playing our system. We did that pretty well tonight and it ended up working out for us.
On setting a career high with 19 points
No, the career high wasn't a big deal, I just wanted to get the win, that was all. I'm just doing everything I can to get a win, and I guess scoring is one of them.
Freshman guard Jaymie Jackson
We still need to work on everything. We have to limit our turnovers and limit what we let our opponents score, so that will be big for us to get more wins in the long run as well.
We have to play through (foul trouble). We have a wonderful bench, where if anything happens, we have people that can come in and step up, so that's important.
We are young and had a lot to learn coming in. Each day we are getting better in practice. We need to keep this momentum we got going. We still need to execute on the road and keep running our system. Yes (being done with exams) makes it a lot easier. It's going to mean more sleep, but yes, it's easier.
Head Coach Melissa McFerrin
This basketball program is not used to losing four games in a row, that's unacceptable and that's not why these players came here. I tell the players when they come here that when you put on that uniform, the wins are expected. That's something we don't want to have to experience again, but that's where we are. We had some injuries and had to put the pieces of the puzzle back together. I have to credit Ariel Hearn a lot right now. She has taken an earful from me for quite a while and she has really turned the corner. This team trusts her, they know she's talented, she's learned how to run our team and get the ball in the right spots, she's not afraid to take on the scoring and ball-handling responsibility, she has really helped us get comfortable because she's starting to get comfortable.
