Against UAB
This is the second meeting between the two programs on the season. UAB defeated Memphis in the Bluff City 61-58 just four games ago. In that game, four Blazers scored in the double-digits, led by 17 from freshman Britney Jones and 16 from Crystal McFadden. Memphis was led by freshman Paris Leonard and her 18 points, while Tamika Butler added 15 and Devin Necaise scored 13.
Butler Moves to Seventh in Career Assists
With her seven assists against Southern Miss, senior point guard Tamika Butler moved into seventh place on the U of M career assist chart. She passed Tiffany Collins (1997-2001) and her 336 career assists and is now 14 assists shy of catching Connie Hibbler (1984-88) for sixth place overall at 351.
Memphis Gets Balanced Scoring Against Southern Miss
For the first time since the SMU game, the Lady Tigers got points from everyone. After freshman Paris Leonard's 16 points, Megan Gooch, Devin Necaise and Tamika Butler all added 10 points apiece. Freshman Sherika Montgomery had her second-best scoring performance of the season, scoring eight points, while Gresh Gorman added six and Ashley Howard added five. Jamie Bradley also got into the scoring action, despite seeing limited time due to fouls, scoring two points.
Leonard in Single Season Top 10 in Threes
With her team-high 34 three-point field goals, freshman Paris Leonard is now tied with Kitty Allen for three-point field goals in a single season. Allen knocked down 34 treys in 1995-96. Leonard, who went without a three over the weekend, going 0-for-11, would need two more to move into a tie for the eighth-best single season mark. Teammate Tamika Butler knocked down 36 treys in 2003-04, while Kelly Herron also knocked down 36 in 1997-98. Butler is only two behind Leonard in a search to put a second season among the overall top 10 in school history. Butler has 34 treys heading into Thursday's game at UAB.
Bradley's Block Party
Just one time in the previous six seasons have the Lady Tigers have someone post 30 blocks for a season. Senior Jamie Bradley inched closer to that mark with a pair of blocks in the loss to Southern Miss. The senior from Kansas City now has a block in each of the past eight games, the first time since 2001 a Lady Tiger has had at least one block in five straight games.
