Howard Posts Second Career Double-Double With Career High Points
Junior guard Ashley Howard posted her second career double-double with 10 rebounds and a career-high 16 points in the loss at East Carolina. Howard continues to lead the team in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per game.
Necaise Heats Up From Beyond the Arc
Junior guard Devin Necaise was one of a trio of Lady Tigers to heat things up from beyond the arc Friday night. With her first three of the night, Necaise became just the fifth Lady Tiger in Memphis history to pass the 100 career three-point mark. In the last six games, Necaise is averaging 18.6 ppg. Teammate Paris Leonard is averaging 10.8 ppg and Howard is averaging 9.4 ppg. Necaise is the second Lady Tiger to pass the 100 career three point mark this season, teammate Tamika Butler passed the same mark earlier this season.
Butler Poised to Move into Career Top Five in Assists
With five more assists, senior Tamika Butler will move into the career top five in assists. She passed Connie Hibler (1980-84) with six assists at ECU and needs five more to catch Kathy Barnett (1976-78) for fifth all-time. She will become the first Lady Tiger point guard in over five years to move into the career top five in assists when she passes Barnett.
Memphis Falls Short in Battle of the Boards
Memphis had no answer for East Carolina's Cherie Mills Friday night. The 6-4 Mills scored ECU's last nine points of the first half, then poured in 12 more in the second half to finish with 21 points and eight rebounds. Memphis was out-rebounded 48-35 in that game and gave up 36 points in the paint.
A Televised Appearance
The Lady Tigers will make their second appearance of the season on CSTV with Sunday's game at Marshall. The game tips at 4:30 p.m. (ET) and will air live.
Bradley's Block Party Comes to An End
Senior post Jamie Bradley had her block streak snapped at 10-consecutive games against ECU. Bradley was the first Lady Tiger since 2001 to post a block in just five straight games. She now has 28 blocks on the season and is trying to become just the second Memphis player in six years to post 30 or more blocks.
Lady Tigers Rely on Three-Point Line to Keep In ECU First Half
Seven of the 11 three-point field goals Memphis shot in the first half of the East Carolina game were from three-point land. Devin Necaise was 4-for-6 from three-point range in the opening half, finishing with 14 points, while Tamika Butler sunk two treys and Paris Leonard hit one. The three-point line was all that was keeping Memphis in the game, as the Lady Tigers got out-rebounded 25-13 in the opening half to trail 37-29. Memphis would go 2-for-10 from beyond the arc in the second half.
