MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - Sophomore guard Brittany Carter was named WBCA All-Region 4 nominee to the 2010 NCAA Division I State Farm Coaches' All-America Team it was announced by the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) office Tuesday morning. Carter is one of 52 honorees from around the country. That list of 52 will be whittled to 40 finalists on Tuesday, March 23rd, and the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team will be selected from those finalists and will be announced at the Alamodome on Center Court between open practices on Saturday, April 3 at 1:05 p.m. as part of the NCAA's Super Saturday events at the Final Four.

Carter, a C-USA first team honoree, was also named the C-USA Newcomer of the Year after leading the league in scoring with 18.8 ppg. The sophomore from Covington, Ga., has been part of a Tiger roster that featured eight newcomers to start the season and has helped Memphis to its first post-season tournament spot since the 2003-04 season. Carter is the lone Tiger to have played and started in all 30 Memphis games and is also the team's second-leading rebounder with 5.8 rpg.

She is one of two players from Conference USA to earn a spot on the WBCA All-Region honorees list. Tulane's Chassity Brown is also on the Region 4 list of honorees. Middle Tennessee's Alysha Clark, Toledo's Tanika Mays, Bowling Green State's Lauren Prochaska and UALR's Chastity Reed were also named to the list. Carter is the lone sophomore on the list, joining two juniors (Prochaska and Reed) and three seniors. On the list of the 52 honorees, there are two freshmen and just eight sophomores, including Carter.

Memphis is the No. 1 seed in the West in the inaugural Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI), and hosts No. 8 seed UMKC, Thursday, at 7 p.m. in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on the University of Memphis campus. Tickets are $7.00 for chair back seating and $5.00 for bleacher seating.
