Tiffany Adkins Invited to WNBA Pre-Draft Camp
April 3, 2001
MEMPHIS, TENN. - University of Memphis' Tiffany Adkins has been invited to the WNBA pre-draft camp to be held April 5-7 at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.
Adkins becomes the third Lady Tiger basketball player invited to the camp as Tamika Whitmore was invited in 1999 and LaTonya Johnson received an invitation in 1998. Whitmore will begin her third season with the New York Liberty while Johnson will open her fourth season with the Utah Starzz.
"We are very excited for Tiffany to get this opportunity to be invited to the pre-draft camp," said Memphis head coach Joye Lee-McNelis. "It doesn't ensure her a spot in the draft, but it does give her the opportunity to prove herself. I know that she will definitely give it her best and I feel sure it will be a success."
"This says a lot about our program to have three players granted this incredible opportunity," added McNelis. "Two of our former players have been drafted in the last three years, and I am excited at the possibility of having a third player advance to the next level. I know Tiffany will be on a mission to prove herself, and I really believe she has what it takes to be the next Lady Tiger to wear a WNBA uniform."
Adkins, a 6-0 forward from Dyer, Tenn., was named to the Conference USA first team this season after leading the Lady Tigers in both scoring and rebounding. She was also named earlier in the year as the MVP of the Lady Tiger Classic. She scored a career high 37 points against Mississippi State at the start of the season, and led the Lady Tigers to a 17-13 record and a bid to the WNIT.
The WNBA Pre-Draft Camp offers coaches and general managers the opportunity to evaluate the skills of prospective players in advance of the WNBA Draft to be held on April 20. Physicals will be conducted on April 5, and the on-court sessions will be April 6-7 at Moody Bible Institute's Solheim Center Gym. The first round of the draft will air on ESPN2 beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT. All four rounds can be found live on NBA.com TV as well as on the internet at WNBA.com.
WNBA training camps will open on May 2, and the preseason begins on May 10. The WNBA regular season will open on May 28, and will run through August 14. The play-offs are slated to begin on Aug. 16.
Adkins is one of three C-USA players invited to the pre-draft camp. She will be joined in Chicago by UAB's Charlotte's Tonya Phifer and Tulane's Janell Burse.
