June 25, 2012
MEMPHIS - - Former Tiger Brittany Carter will add some more stamps to her passport in the coming week. Carter has joined with an All-Star team that will travel to China to compete in two tournaments from June 28-July 10th.
The trip will start with a three-game pre-Olympic event called the Four Nations Tournament, where the U.S. squad will compete against the Olympic teams from China, Russia and Australia. The women's team will then head to a second city in China to play a series of games against the Chinese national "B" team.
The women's roster consists of Katie Bussey (Montana State), Dawn Evans (James Madison/Connecticut Sun), Ashley Corrall (USC/Seattle Storm), Jence Rhoads (Vanderbilt/Iceland), Brittany Carter (Memphis/Connecticut Sun), Becky Burke (Louisville), Briana Gilbreath (USC/Washington Mystics), Amanda Johnson (Oregon), Kristina Santiago (Cal Poly), Cierra Bravard (Florida State/San Antonio Silver Stars), Becca Tobin (Arizona State/Romania) and Kali Bennett (Arizona State).
Carter completed her Tiger career in May as the Tigers' 13th-leading scorer in just three seasons with 1,437 points and 422 rebounds. In 93 career games, Carter made 79 starts and was a three-time All-C-USA honoree, becoming the first to earn three league all-conference honors since Tamika Whitmore earned three straight nods from 1997-1999.
Carter went through pre-season camp with the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA and is preparing to launch a pro career overseas this fall. She will join her All-Star teammates in San Francisco Tuesday.
