MEMPHIS - - The University of Memphis women's basketball team rounded out its roster for the upcoming season with the transfer of Pa'Sonna Hope (Cleveland, Ohio/Regina HS) it was announced by head coach Melissa McFerrin, Monday. Hope played the past two seasons at Ole Miss.
A 6-0 forward, Hope played in 48 games at Ole Miss. As a freshman, she played in 25 games, with 21 starts. That same freshman campaign saw Hope average 7.7 points and 6.6 rebounds a game, adding 22 blocks and finishing ninth in the SEC with 67 offensive rebounds. Hope then played in 23 games as a sophomore.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Hope is a 2010 graduate of Regina High School in South Euclid, Ohio, where she played under coach Pat Diulus. She was named to the All-Ohio second team as a junior and the first team as a senior and helped her Royals teammates to a Division 3 State Championship in her junior season. She averaged 12.2 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.9 blocks a game in her senior season. In her final two prep seasons, she helped her team to a 54-2 record, including an unblemished 27-0 mark her junior year.
"Pa'Sonna gives us another inside presence with high level college experience," McFerrin said. "I expect her to contribute immediately in a rebounding capacity. She is also a very capable pressure defender and a player who can score from the block through contact."
The daughter of Patricia Hope, Pa'Sonna plans on majoring in criminal justice. She will be the Tigers' third newcomer from the state of Ohio for the upcoming season. She joins freshmen Jaymie Jackson (Toledo/Start HS) and Courtney Powell (Youngstown/Ursuline) on the Memphis roster. All three players played in the Sports City U organization under Tom Jenkins. Hope is one of eight newcomers for the 2012-13 season. The Tigers' incoming freshman class was ranked No. 39 in the country by ESPN HoopGurlz.
Memphis is currently a member of Conference USA, but moves to the BIG EAST for the 2013-2014 season. The Tigers have posted three straight seasons with 20 or more wins, including a 25-8 mark last season, which saw Memphis advance to the second round of the WNIT. That was the third consecutive post-season appearance for Memphis, including a second straight season in the WNIT.
Memphis opens the season in the Preseason WNIT against Grambling State on Nov. 9th.
