MEMPHIS, Tenn. - John Hoover has joined the University of Memphis women's basketball staff as the Director of Basketball Operations (DBO) it was announced by Blair Savage-Lansden, Thursday. As the DBO, Hoover will be responsible for coordinating Lady Tiger practices and travel schedules, overseeing equipment inventory and supervising the student managers.

"We're excited to have John Hoover on our staff," Savage said. "His ties to the Midwest and his basketball background will definitely benefit us and the players. I like having someone in that position who aspires to be a basketball coach somewhere down the road."

Hoover has served as the Director of Operations for the D-1 Basketball Camps in Monticello, Indiana, since 2004, after working as the Associate Director from 1989-2000. He coordinates the camp, one of the biggest in the state of Indiana, handling the hiring and supervision of seasonal employees and managing the camp merchandising.

This is Hoover's second stop in Memphis, as he followed wife Jennifer here when she was first brought on board as a Lady Tiger basketball assistant coach in 2002-03. While she worked with the Lady Tigers, he served as a physical education teacher at Elmore Park Middle School in Bartlett.

Hoover's basketball background includes a three-year playing career at Eastern New Mexico State University in Portales, New Mexico. He completed his eligibility there, then returned to his native Indiana and finished his college degree at Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

His coaching career includes a stop at New Mexico Junior College, where he spent the 1999-2000 season as the assistant women's basketball coach and assistant intramural director before spending the next two years working outside of basketball before moving to Memphis.

Hoover replaces Ryan Ivey, who left to become the Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Affairs at McNeese State University. He and his wife, Jennifer, have a daughter, Maggie, and reside in Germantown.
