Carter and Lee Earn More Preseason Honors
Oct. 14, 2011
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - Seniors Brittany Carter and Jasmine Lee have earned more pre-season honors on the morning of Memphis Madness. Carter was named to the College Sports Madness High-Major Preseason All-American Second team and also was tabbed by that site as the C-USA Preseason Player of the Year. You can see the complete class of honorees here. Jasmine Lee was named to the Conference USA Preseason Second team. You can see that entire Conference USA preseason list here. Carter, who was also named the Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year in a poll of the league coaches, is a two-time first team honoree. She battled a stress fracture in her foot the entire second half of last season, missing five games, but was again the Tigers' leading scorer with 13.8 ppg. The Covington, Georgia native returned to the Memphis lineup at the Conference USA tournament after missing the five games, scoring 10 points in a first round win over Southern Miss to become the 20th Tiger in school history to hit the 1,000 career point mark. Carter reached that prestigious plateau in just her 60th career game at Memphis, the third-fastest Tiger to the grand mark in school history. In the second game at the conference championships, she helped No. 6 seed Memphis upend No. 3 seed Rice with a 21 point effort off the bench. That game marked the 19th time in her career she scored 20 or more points and pushed the Tigers in to the Conference USA semifinals for the first time since 1997-98. Down low, Lee, who was named to the C-USA coaches' preseason all-conference squad, led Memphis in rebounding with 8.2 rpg and finished just behind Carter in scoring with 12.4 ppg. Lee actually led Memphis total points on the season (409), playing in 33 of 34 Tiger games with 19 starts. Lee posted eight double-doubles for the Tigers last season, her first playing for Memphis, and scored double digits 18 times. She was named the C-USA Player of the Week one time, after the Tigers upended Big 10 foe Indiana on the road, a game that saw Lee post her second consecutive double-double.
Memphis, the C-USA coaches' poll preseason picks to win the league, will open their regular season in a doubleheader with the men's basketball team at FedExForum on Friday, November 11th at 5 p.m. against former C-USA competitor Saint Louis. That game is included in the Tiger season ticket package, which is currently on sale. Women's basketball season tickets start at just $60 for 17 home games, including that FedExForum game against Saint Louis. A family four pack of tickets (good for two adults and two children) costs just $125, averaging out to a little over $7.00 a game for an entire family to get in to all 17 home dates.
