Women's Basketball Has C-USA Contest Picked up for TV
Oct. 17, 2012
MEMPHIS - - The University of Memphis women's basketball team has had a game selected as part of the Conference USA television package. The Tigers' contest against Southern Miss will air on Fox Sports Network, Sunday, Jan. 13th at 3:30 p.m. (CT) from FedExForum in downtown Memphis.
Memphis opens its 2012-13 season with an exhibition game on Saturday, November 3rd at 2 p.m. against in-town foe Rhodes College. That game will mark the debut of at least seven new Tigers (senior guard Jamila Ajanaku is still awaiting a decision from the NCAA on her appeal to play this season).
The Tigers return just two starters from last season's 25-8 squad that advanced to the second round of the WNIT. Senior forward Nicole Dickson is a pre-season all-C-USA honoree after being Memphis' second-leading scorer and rebounder last season. She became the 22nd player in school history to pass the 1,000 career point mark in the regular season finale, and enters her senior campaign ranked eighth in the record book with 112 three-point field goals made. Also returning is starting point guard Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir. Abdul-Qaadir led Memphis last year with 112 assists against 72 turnovers (1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio).
The other three starters will come from either returnees KK Harvey, Ann Jones and Lauren McGraw or from the newcomer pool of Jamila Ajanaku (who is awaiting an NCAA appeal), Asianna Fuqua-Bey, Ariel Hearn, Pa'Sonna Hope (who was declared eligible for this season earlier this week), Jaymie Jackson, Devin Mack, Courtney Powell or Mooriah Rowser.
Season tickets for the women's basketball season are on sale now and start at just $60 for the entire season for a general admission, endzone bleacher seat. Reserved chairback season tickets are $100 (or $60 for senior citizens). All of those season tickets can be purchased online here.
A family four-pack of tickets can also be purchased in person at the University of Memphis Ticket Office or by phone at 901-678-2331. The family four pack is good for two adults and two children and costs just $125 for the whole family for the whole season. Memphis opens its regular season schedule at home against Grambling State as part of the Preseason WNIT. The Tigers will play three total games as part of the WNIT, with the location of games two and three depending on the win/loss result of the previous round.
