MEMPHIS - - The University of Memphis women's basketball team is now just a week away from the opening of the season's exhibition game against Rhodes College, but the team gathered some of its fans and friends to kick the season off with the Third Annual Heels & Hoops Gala. The gala was sponsored by Evolve Bank & Trust and included entertainment from by The Fabulous Steeler Band. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Fastbreak Club, the official booster club of the University of Memphis women's basketball team. Previous galas raised funds for a locker room renovation and for the team's August 2011 trip to Italy for a foreign tour.

The women's basketball team will open its 2012-13 season with an exhibition game Saturday at 2 p.m. against Rhodes College. That exhibition game will be the first game action for the five freshmen players that joined the roster this season, as well as newcomers Devin Mack, Pa'Sonna Hope and possibly Jamila Ajanaku, who is still awaiting word on an application for an NCAA waiver to play this season after returning home to be close to family.

Memphis opens its regular season in 2012-13 Preseason WNIT by hosting Grambling State on Nov. 9th.

Season tickets for the upcoming season are now available starting at just $60. Tickets can be purchased online here or by calling 901-678-2331. A family four-pack of tickets is also available for the entire season for just $125.
