MEMPHIS - -
Sophomore guard Ariel Hearn (Memphis, Tenn./Arlington HS) was named to the Paradise Jam All-Tournament Team. Hearn averaged 16.3 ppg and shot 55.0 percent from three-point range in three games at the Virgin Islands tournament, leading Memphis in scoring and steals (with eight).
Hearn is Memphis' leading scorer, averaging 17.4 ppg and leading the team with 20 steals on the season. She also ranks second on the team with 26 assists. Hearn has knocked down 16 three-point field goals on the season, 11 of them at the Paradise Jam tournament last week.
Hearn was joined on the all-tournament team by Brady Sanders of Texas, Courtney Walker of Texas A&M and Brittney Sykes and Brianna Butler of Syracuse. Butler was named the tournament MVP for Syracuse, which won the Reef Division championships and improved to 8-0 on the season.
The Tigers will finish their fall semester classes early this week, then break for study day on Thursday and begin fall final exams Friday. On Saturday, the team will host former conference foe UAB, at 4 p.m. That game will be Memphis' first game at home since Nov. 18th.
The Saturday game will be Memphis' annual Teddy Bear Toss game. All fans bringing a new stuffed animal to donate to LeBonheur Children's Research Hospital will receive free admission. The animals will be tossed onto the court at halftime for prizes and will then be collected by the Tigers' athletics staff. The collected donations will then be delivered to patients at LeBonheur Children's Research Hospital by the women's basketball team after final exams are completed.
