Lady Tigers in a Tie for 14th at Hurricane Invitational

Preston McClellan, Undergraduate Assistant - Round One Results MIAMI LAKES, Fla.—The University of Memphis women’s golf team is in a tie for 14th place after one round at the Hurricane Invitational. Alex Aläng is in a tie for 18th place individually after carding a 75 in the first round. Aläng’s 75 is the third lowest round of her career. Marissa Steen posted a 76 to claim a share of 25th place. Julia Hodgson, competing for the first time since last fall’s CSU Wendy’s Invitational, posted a 79 in round one and is in a tie for 51st. Sarah Mathews (83) and Leslie Grabeman (84) are in a tie for 79th and 80th, respectively. Memphis is in a tie for 14th place overall after posting a 313 in the first round. The Lady Tigers are tied with Mercer and are only six strokes out of the top-10. Georgia State leads the team competition after posting a 292 (+4) in round one. Coastal Carolina was the only other team to break the 300 mark in round one, carding 296 (+8). San Diego State (303), East Tennessee State (304), and North Carolina (304) complete the top six. Christine Wong was the only player to shoot under par in round one, carding a three-under-par 69 in the first round. Behind Wong, four players sit in a tie for second after carding 72’s: Sandra Maier (Georgia State), Aruka Felgueroso (Coastal Carolina), Alicia Grier (Coastal Carolina), and Olivia Higgins (Charleston Southern). The Hurricane Invitational continues tomorrow with a 12:30 pm (ET) shotgun start.
