Memphis Finishes 15th at UCF Challenge

SORRENTO, Fla. — The University of Memphis women’s golf team posted a final round team score of 312 to finish 15th in the 2011 UCF Challenge at the RedTail Golf Club. Alex Aläng posted scores of 76-71-77 (224) to lead the Lady Tigers and finish 28th individually. Kathleen Glavin turned in rounds of 73-75-78 (226) to finish in a tie for 40th, while Julia Hodgson carded a tournament total of 233 (76-80-77) to land in a tie for 58th position. Marissa Steen (77-81-80—238) and Sarah Mathews (77-80-86—243) finished in 77th and 86th, respectively. Memphis posted team scores of 302-306-312 amidst windy conditions to finish 15th in a 17-team field that featured nine teams which qualified for the 2010 NCAA Regionals. Second-round leader Coastal Carolina (285-289-293—867) posted a final round 293 to seal a one-stroke victory of Tulane (284-295-289—868). Co-medalist Teresa Puga fired a final round 66 to lead Wisconsin (288-295-286—869) into third. Puga’s three-round total of 208 (70-72-66) earned her a tie with Ashleigh Albrecht (Kentucky), who posted scores of 66-70-72. The two were declared co-medalists after each made a par on the first two playoff holes. Memphis will return to the Sunshine state for its next tournament when it competes in the Cards Challenge hosted by the University of Louisville in Weston, Fla. on Feb. 27 – Mar. 01.
