Memphis Finishes 15th in Hurricane Invitational

MIAMI LAKES, Fla.--The University of Memphis women's golf team carded a team score of 321 in the final round of the Hurricane Invitational today and finished 15th in its first event of the spring.
Sarah Mathews carded the lowest round of the day for Memphis, posting a 77 in the final round to move up into a tie for 49th for the tournament. Marissa Steen, who posted a three-under-par 69 yesterday in the second round, carded a final round 81. Steen finished in a tie for 13th place and earned the seventh top-20 finish of her career.
Julia Hodgson turned in a final round 80 to give her a three-day tournament total of 240 and finish alone in 66th place. Alex Aläng (75-83-83) and Leslie Grabeman (84-82-86) finished in a tie for 67th and a tie for 82nd, respectively.
Memphis' final round 321 gave them a three-round team total of 941, good for 15th place in the team standings.
"It was tough out there today," said Memphis head coach Beth Harrelson. "But, this was a good learning experience to start off the spring. As the weather gets better and we have more practice time, I know that we will continue to improve. "
UCF (307-293-294) fired a final round team total of 294 to steal the team title from first and second round leader Georgia State (292-300-303) by one stroke. East Tennessee State (304-300-292) finished in third.
Christine Wong (San Diego State) fired her second consecutive 74 to claim the individual title. Her three day total of 217 (69-74-74) bested Aruka Felgueroso of Coastal Carolina (72-73-75) by three strokes. Mary Chamberlin of James Madison posted rounds of 76-70-75 to finish in third.
Memphis competes next when it travels to Mobile, Ala. to compete in the South Alabama Lady Jaguars Invitational on March 1-2.
