Lady Tigers Finish Tied for 15th at Miccosukee Championship
Feb. 22, 2005
MIAMI - Although shooting its course low in the final round of the Miccosukee Championship, the University of Memphis women's golf team dropped one spot to finish in a tie for 15th place on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers shot a 325 in the final 18 holes at the tournament hosted by Florida International University to finish 332-326-325--983. Once again Stacey Tate led Memphis, finishing in a tie for 13th place after scoring a team low, 2-over-par 75, in the final round. Tate finished 80-76-75--231. "This is kind of what you expect from February golf with a young team," said Memphis head coach Jenny Bruun. "You go through some bumps and bruises and then continue to go forward. I feel like we are still on the right track." Freshman Ashleigh Garman scored a career low on the final nine with a 78. The Brentwood, Tenn., native also had her second lowest three-round total with a 86-83-78--247 and her second lowest finish, tying for 63rd place and finishing second among Memphis players. Also shooting her lowest round of the tournament on the final 18 holes was sophomore Cameron Barber who scored an 84. Her 86-88-84--258 tournament total is the third best of her career. Barber tied with teammate Kathryn O'Rourke for 82nd place. For the second-straight time, sophomore Meghan Mahoney was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to back problems. Mahoney had rounds of 81 and 82 on Monday before withdrawing from the final round. "Meghan's a tough kid," Bruun said. "She would have played if she could. We have to get her healthy again to have any shot at the conference tournament."
Georgia State University moved from second place to first place, finishing 317-301-296--914. University of Colorado's Hannah Hoch held on to first place to capture the medalist honors with a 74-73-75--222. The Lady Tigers remain idle until March 14 when they compete in the UNLV Spring Invitational, a three-day tournament hosted by UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev. Team Finish Fin.
