Whisenant Leads Lady Tigers at Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. - The University of Memphis women's golf team opened their spring season at the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge in Miami Lakes, Fla., on Monday, and Memphis shot 626 in the first two rounds. The Lady Tigers were led by Ashleigh Whisenant who shot 79-76.
Whisenant posted a first round 79 before heating up in the second round. She matched her career low 18-hole score of 76, posting one birdie. Her two round total of 155 has her in 43rd place out of more than 90 golfers. Natalie Turk started the day with a 77, and followed that with an 80 in the second round. She is in 50th place with a total of 157.
Alex Aläng isn't far behind Turk as she posted a total of 159. She improved on her first round 81 with a 78 in the second round. Ashley Kees posed her second best score of 2012-13, a four-over 76 in the first round before posting an 88 in the second round. Shelby Sain recovered nicely after shooting a first round 88 to post a 79 in the second round.
North Carolina State currently leads the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge with a total score of 590 while Florida International is in second place at 591. Memphis' total of 626 lands them in 11th place.
The tournament will conclude with the third and final round tomorrow. Teams will tee off beginning at 8:00 a.m. (ET). Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com.
