Two Lady Tigers Finish in Top 25 at Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. - University of Memphis golfers Marissa Steen and Julia Hodgson completed play at Augusta State's Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate by finishing tied for fifth and 25th places, respectively. Senior Marissa Steen (74-70-75--219, +3) entered the final day of play tied for third-place and used a solid final round score of 75 to tie for fifth-place with UTSA's Summer Batiste and Purdue's Laura Gonzalez. The West Chester, Ohio, native's second round 70 and fifth-place finish are both spring season-bests. Hodgson, a junior from Unionville, Ontario, finished her best complete performance of the season by scoring 74-78-77--229 (+13) throughout the three-day Augusta State tournament. Hodgson's first round 74 ties a season-best, having shot the same score at Louisville's Sir Pizza Cards Challenge. Fellow junior Sarah Mathews turned in scores of 79-86-76--241 to place tied for 63rd, while freshman Ashleigh Whisenant scored 80-87-82--249 to finish in 70th place. Senior Kathleen Galvin returned to the course for the final day of competition to shoot a final round 77. As a team, Memphis (307-321-305--933) finished 12th, just two strokes behind Arkansas-Little Rock which shot 318-306-307--931 to finish in 11th place. UTSA took home the tournament championship trophy, having fired rounds of 298-286-296--880 (+16). The Roadrunners were trailed closely by host Augusta State (299-289-298--886) and Purdue (299-293-295--887), who finished second and third, respectively. Memphis now turns its attention to the 2012 Rebel Intercollegiate, the Lady Tigers' last event prior to the Conference USA Championship. The Rebel Intercollegiate is hosted by rival Ole Miss and is slated to be played April 6-8 in Oxford, Miss.
