Lady Tigers Have Tough Opening Round at Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic

Athens, GA - The University of Memphis Lady Tiger golf team opened play in the prestigious Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic in Athens, GA, and are in 15th place after the first 18-holes. Host institution Georgia holds the team lead with a score of 297. The Lady Bulldogs were the only team to break 300 on the day.

The U of M Lady Tiger golf team carded a team score of 322 and trail Georgia by 25 strokes entering Saturday's second round.. Florida and Furman are tied for second at 301, while Auburn is in fourth at 303 and South Carolina is fifth with a 305.

Mississippi State's Anna Gertsson has the medalist honors after the opening round with a one under par score of 71. Lady Tiger Meaghan Francella carded a 76 and is five shots out of the lead.

Second round play is slated for Saturday.
