CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla.—Marissa Steen posted a final round, one-under-par 71 to lead the University of Memphis women’s golf team to a sixth place finish at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational. Steen finished with a three-day total of 225 (+9) and claimed a share of fifth place individually. Steen has now recorded six top-20 finishes this season, including five top-10’s. Her fifth place finish comes on the heels of her claiming medalist honors at the Lady Tigers’ last event, the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational. “Marissa did a fantastic job of grinding it out this week,” said Lady Tiger head coach Beth Harrelson. “She didn’t get out to a great start in round one, but she didn’t let it affect her and just kept playing hard.” Julia Hodgson posted scores of 76-77-79 and finished with a career-low finish of 19th. Kathleen Glavin turned in a final round 81 to finish in a tie for 41st position. Alex Aläng rebounded with a final round 74 to finish in a tie for 48th. Sarah Mathews turned in a final round 86 and finished in a tie for 62nd. Memphis posted a tournament-low 305 in the final round to claim sixth place outright. Illinois won the team title with a tournament total of 893. Alex Buelow of Stetson was the individual winner with a 216. The Lady Tigers return to action April 10-11 when they travel to Richmond, Ky. to compete in the EKU Lady Colonel Classic.
