Marissa Steen's second round 75 paced the University of Memphis women's golf team today at the 2009 Rebel Intercollegiate hosted by Ole Miss. Steen's three-over-par showing in the second round has her in a tie for 11th place going into the final round at the Country Club of Oxford.

Steen got off to a rough start in round two, going four-over-par on her first three holes, but she was able to salvage a three-over 39 on the front nine. She then made two birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to shoot an even par 36.

"I'm very proud of Marissa for the way she hung in there today," said Lady Tiger head coach Beth Harrelson. "She got off to a rough start, but instead of folding, she fought back and turned in a good round."

Rachel Larson was the only other Lady Tiger to break 80. Her second round 77 left her in a tie for 32nd place. Kathleen Glavin (81) is in a tie for 57th after posting a two-day total of 165. Leslie Grabeman (82) and Caitlin McDonald (93) are in 66th and 76th, respectively.

"Rachel played a good round today," said Coach Harrelson. "She hit one out-of-bounds and had one shot go in a hazard, so for her to be able to still post a good round shows how mentally tough she is."

The Lady Tigers posted a second-round team total of 315 to give them a total of 643 for two days. Their second round performance moved them into 12th place, bypassing UAB and leaving them only two strokes behind South Alabama.

Tulane held on to its lead by posting a team total of 297 in the second round. Their two-day total of 597 has them 11 shots ahead of second place Oregon State (311-297).

Dori Carter of Ole Miss is the individual leader after posting her second-consecutive 73. Linn Gustafsson (75-73) of Tulane is two shots back in second.
