HATTIESBURG, Miss. - University of Memphis women's golf sophomore Stacey Tate earned medalist honors at the Southern Miss Golden Eagle Invitational after shooting a par-71 in the final round on Tuesday.

Tate finished two-over-par (71-73-71--215) in the tournament, beating out Birmingham Southern's Emily Klein (75-69-72--216) and Middle Tennessee's Taryn Durahm (69-73-74--216) by one stroke. The New Zealand native is the first Lady Tiger to medal since Jennifer Jaszek was the top scorer in the 2002 Memphis Women's Intercollegiate. It is the fourth time Tate has finished in the top five individually this season.

The 215 three-round individual total is a new Lady Tiger record low, surpassing the previous record of 219 accomplished eight times, most recently by Jaszek in 2002. Tate's tournament score surpasses her previous low of 224 accomplished at the Wildcat Fall Invitational where she finished tied for second.

Despite Tate's accomplishment, the Lady Tigers finished tied for sixth with a 305-305-309--919. Birmingham Southern (291-293-295--879) finished first while host Southern Miss (293-310-300--903) took second and Conference USA foe UAB (312-308-309--929) finished eighth.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Meghan Mahoney finished 17th with a 74-74-80--228. It is her lowest tournament score of her career besting her 229 Lady Paladin three-round total earlier this season. Sophomore Ashley Burross also had an impressive tournament, finishing tied for 27th with a 76-78-78--232. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native had a previous tournament low of 251.

Sophomore Kathryn O'Rourke finished one stroke behind Burross with a 79-75-79--233 to finish in a 28th place tie. Other Lady Tiger finishers were Cameron Barber (79-79-81--239) who finished tied for 45th and Bernie Rosero (80-84-81--245) who ended in a tie for 55th place.
