Women's Golf Posts First Round 314 at M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. - - The University of Memphis women's golf team posted a first round 314 at the M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate, Friday. The team will continue second round play on Saturday on the Ole Miss course.
Senior Alex Aläng led Memphis with a five-over 77 on the afternoon, recovering from a +4 on the backside, where Memphis started, to post a +1 on the front side, including a birdie at eight. Sophomore Ashley Whisenant birdied her final hole of the day to finish the first round at +6 (78). Natalie Turk closed her front side in style, birdying 18 to finish her first half at +3 on the day. She finished at +7 and is tied for 73rd. Julia Hodgson rounded out the Lady Tigers' scorers with a +9.
Number 49 ranked Coastal Carolina was the lone team to post a score under par and leads the field at -4 (284). No. 24 Baylor is tied with Mississippi State at +1 (289) and No. 29 LSU and No. 34 Kentucky are tied for fifth at +3 following the opening round.
Memphis plays its second round in the three-day competition on Saturday. The Tigers will again tee off of 10, beginning at 10 a.m.
