Lady Tigers Finish 11th at BankcorpSouth Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. - The University of Memphis women's golf team (311-304-306--921) concluded play at Ole Miss' BankcorpSouth Rebel Intercollegiate by shooting 306 throughout the tournament's final round of play, finishing in 11th place. Junior Alex Aläng (75-73-78--226) was Memphis' leading scorer throughout the tournament, finishing tied for 27th and firing her a career-first hole-in-one during the event's first round. Freshman Ashleigh Whisenant (80-76-76--232) completed the fourth tournament of her Lady Tiger career tied for 48th place with career-low second and third round scores of 76. Senior Marissa Steen (83-77-74--234) and junior Julia Hodgson (78-78-78--234) finished the annual Ole Miss tournament tied for shares of 58th place, doing so in drastically different fashions. Steen, Memphis' No. 1, rebounded from a difficult first round score of 83, to shoot second and third rounds of 77 and 74, with a combined six birdies. Hodgson, a junior from Unionville, Ontario, continued her consistent play by firing rounds of 78 in each of the tournament's three rounds of play. Junior Sarah Mathews finished tied for 71st place by shooting rounds of 78-78-81--237. Memphis' 11th place team finish trailed 10th place finisher Harvard (304-301-306--911) by 10 strokes. The Lady Tigers now turn their attention to preparation for the Conference USA Championship, which is slated to be played April 23-25 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
