April 13, 2009
The University of Memphis women's golf team is in eighth place after two rounds of play at the Conference USA Championship hosted by Tulsa. Rachel Larson fired rounds of 84-80 at the Tulsa Country Club to lead the Lady Tigers. Larson's two-round total leaves her in a tie for 15th individually. Marissa Steen carded rounds of 87-84 to finish in a tie for 29th. Kathleen Glavin posted rounds of 85-91 to get into a tie for 36th. Leslie Grabeman (93-86) and Caitlin McDonald (110-102) are in T41st and 46th place, respectively. "It was a tough day out there," said Lady Tiger head coach Beth Harrelson. "Conditions weren't the best, but I'm proud of the way everyone hung in there." The Lady Tigers totaled rounds of 349-341 and are in eighth place after two rounds. "Like I said, conditions were anything but prime so that made it difficult to score," said Coach Harrelson. "But, I expect our team to come out tomorrow and play well." Tulane (317-316) holds a six stroke advantage over UCF (318-321) after the opening two rounds of play. East Carolina (321-319), Tulsa (328-322), and UTEP (339-317) round out the top-five. Daniela Holmqvist of Tulane holds a five stroke lead in the individual competition after posting rounds of 74-75. Sarah Elliot (75-79) of Tulsa, Teresa Nogues (79-76) of UTEP, and Elisa Aoki (78-78) of UCF round out the top-four. The Lady Tigers will conclude the 2008-09 season tomorrow with the completion of the third and final round of the Conference USA Championship.
