HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- Alex Aläng posted a second round 73 to lead Memphis into third place after two rounds at the Conference USA Women’s Golf Championship. Aläng is tied for fifth place individually after two days at Canebrake Country Club.

Aläng is looking to post her second consecutive top-five finish after posting a third place showing at the EKU Lady Colonel Classic. Julia Hodgson, who was tied with Aläng after the first round, carded a 76 in round two and is currently in a tie for 12th place.

Marissa Steen, who has posted three consecutive top-five finishes, turned in a second round 76 and is currently tied with teammate Kathleen Glavin who carded a 75 in round two. Sarah Mathews rebounded with a second round 74 after posting an 83 in round one.

Memphis is in third place in the team standings after posting scores of 295-298. The two day total is the lowest of the season for the Lady Tigers, who trail leader Tulane (290-283) by 20 strokes. East Carolina, which trailed Memphis by one stroke after round one, fired a 288 in round two to overtake the Lady Tigers.

“All things considered, I’m very pleased with our play through two rounds,” said Memphis head coach Beth Harrelson. “The back nine out here is really tough, and it got the best of some of us today.”

The Lady Tigers are seeking to claim their first Conference USA title since 2007. That season, Memphis went on to finish 21st in the NCAA West Regional.

The final round of the Conference USA Women’s Golf Championship will begin Tuesday, April 20 at 8 a.m. (CDT). Fans can follow the action live via www.golfstat.com.
