Women's Golf Tied for Fifth at the End of Day One at C-USA Championships

The University of Memphis women's golf team is tied for fifth at the end of the first day of the Conference USA Championships. Memphis fired around of 304 (+16) and is currently tied for fifth overall with Tulsa, just two strokes behind No. 33 SMU. No. 20 Tulane leads the field after an opening day 291 (+3).
Memphis has a pair of Tigers in the mix of things in the top 20. Seniors Alex Aläng and Sarah Mathews are each tied for 14th in the individual standings with an opening day 75 (+3). Julia Hodgson and Ashleigh Whisenant are also in position for a top 20 finish, after both scored an opening day 77 (+5). Natalie Turk, one of two sophomores competing in her first collegiate conference championship tournament, posted a first round 87 to finish the first day in a tie for 51st.
"I am very proud of the way the girls have come together and stayed tough in very windy conditions," Head Coach Beth Harrelson said. "We are looking forward to a great round tomorrow."
