C-USA Championship Day One Get Acrobat Reader

GULF SHORES, Ala. - University of Memphis senior Marissa Steen shot 75 (+3) to tie for a share of seventh-place through the first round of play at the 2012 Conference USA Championship.

Steen, C-USA's 2011 runner-up, shares seventh-place with Gemma Dryburgh (Tulane), Katie Mitchell (UCF), Amy Otteson (ECU) and Monifa Sealy (UCF). The West Chester, Ohio, native paced the Lady Tigers' efforts throughout day one of the three-day tournament.

Memphis juniors Alex Aläng and Julia Hodgson both fired round one scores of 78 to tie for shares 17th place, while Memphis native Sarah Mathews carded a round one tally of 79 to tie for 24th place. In her first competition since returning from a back injury, senior Kathleen Glavin shot 81 to tie for 32nd place.

As a team, Memphis (310, +22) finished day one play in fourth-place, four strokes behind third-place UCF (306, +18), the 38th ranked team in the nation. No. 33 Tulsa leads the field with a round one score of 299 (+11), while No. 32 Tulane trails by just two strokes (301, +13).

UAB's Caitlin Watts leads all competitors, having fired a round one score of 70 (-2). The Blazers' sophomore is trailed by Marita Engzelius (71) of Tulsa and Maribel Porras-Lopez (73) of Tulane.

Round two of play is slated to tee-off at 7:30 a.m., and live scoring is available via GolfStat.com.
