Hodgson Leads Lady Tigers in Old Waverly First Round
Julia Hodgson carded the lowest score among Lady Tigers, a two-over 74. Hodgson got off to a slow start, posting a double bogey on her first hole, number 10, but recovered to shoot a two-over 38 on the back nine. She birdied the ninth hole to finish the front nine with an even-par 36 for a 74. The senior currently sits in a tie for 11th place. Natalie Turk posted the next best score for the Lady Tigers, a 76. Turk shot 37 on the back nine and followed it with a 39 on the front. Ashleigh Whisenant wasn't far behind Turk as she shot a 78. She started the day with a birdie on the 10th and finished the back nine with a 38. Whisenant followed that with a 40 on the front nine. Sarah Mathews and Ashley Kees rounded out the Lady Tigers' squad, shooting 80 and 81, respectively. Kees recovered from a 42 on the back nine with a 38 on the front while Mathews carded a 42 on the back nine and a 38 on the front. Playing as an individual, Shelby Sain registered an 81. Sain posted a 44 on the back nine, but followed it up with a one-over 37 on the front nine. Tulane holds the lead after day one as they shot a 290. The Green Waves' Gemma Dryburgh was one of four golfers to post a score under par. She shot a three-under 69 to hold the lead after one round. Memphis will continue play at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational tomorrow morning. Teams will begin teeing off at Old Waverly Golf Club at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
