Lady Tigers Fall to 10th in Second Round of the Old Waverly Invite

Ashley Kees led the Lady Tigers in round two as she posted a five-over 77. The Lady Tigers started on the back nine for the second consecutive day, and Kees opened with a bogey on the 10th. However, she recovered with seven straight pars before another bogey on 18 to shoot a 38 on the back nine. The junior started the front nine with three straight pars, but bogeyed three of the final six holes to shoot a 39 on the front for a total of 77. Sarah Mathews was next behind Kees as she carded a 79. Mathews matched Kees’ 38 on the back nine and followed it with a 41 on the front. Julia Hodgson struggled on the back nine, shooting a 43, but she recovered to post a one-over 37 on the front nine. Hodgson’s only blemish on the front was a bogey on the par-four eighth. She ended the round with an 80. Natalie Turk and Ashleigh Whisenant rounded out the Lady Tigers’ squad with rounds of 81 and 82, respectively. Turk posted a 41 on the back and a 40 on the front nine while Whisenant finished with a 39 on the back and 43 on the front. Playing as an individual, Shelby Sain carded an 85 in the second round. Sain posted a 44 on the back nine and followed that with a 41 on the front. Memphis currently is in 10th place of 11 teams with a two-round score of 625 at Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational. Arkansas leads the tournament after shooting 585 over the first two days. Tulane is only one shot back at 586 and Kentucky is third at 588. Tulane’s Gemma Dryburgh still holds lead after shooting a two-under 70. She has a two round total of 139 and leads by two strokes over Arkansas’ Emma Lavy and Tulane’s Emily Penttila. The third and final round of the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational will take place tomorrow. Teams will start teeing off at 8:30 a.m. at Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Miss.
