Lady Tigers Take Big Lead in Memphis Women's Intercollegiate

Memphis, TN - The University of Memphis Lady Tiger golf team, playing it's first tournament under new head coach Sheryl Maize, posted team scores of 297-292 to take a 25-stroke lead in the 2002 Memphis Women's Intercollegiate. The event is being played at the Club at Northcreek in Southaven, Mississippi. The Lady Tigers, who won last year's tournament, enter the final round with a team score of 589. New Orleans is second at 614, while Middle Tennessee State is in third place with a score of 615. Augusta State and William & Mary complete the top five with totals of 617 and 629 respectively. Memphis senior Marianne Ruud is tied for the individual lead with an even par score of 144. Ruud had rounds of 74-70 to tie New Orleans' Crystal Elliers, who carded scores of 73-71. U of M junior Jennifer Jaszek, who won last year's medalist honors, is in third place, one stroke behind Ruud and Elliers. Brooke Mangan of UAB and Lauren Smith of Augusta State University round out the top five individuals. Memphis placed four of its five golfers in the events top ten on the first day of competition. Freshman Danielle Reilly, playing in her first collegiate tournament, had scores of 77-72 and is in sixth place. Senior Abby More is in tenth place with rounds of 75-76. The finals are slated be begin at 8 AM on Tuesday.
