Lady Tigers Win Memphis Women's Intercollegiate

Memphis, TN - The University of Memphis Lady Tiger golf team handed first year head coach Sheryl Maize her first tournament championship at the U of M by posting a final round score of 307 to win the Memphis Women's Intercollegiate Challenge at the Club at North Creek. The Lady Tigers also won the individual championship. The Lady Tigers, who won last year's tournament, finished the three round event with a score of 896. The score was the lowest by a winning team since 1981 when champion LSU won the inaugural event with a team score of 891. Middle Tennessee State was second with a score of 919. New Orleans finished third at 922, while Augusta State and William & Mary complete the top five with totals of 930 and 936 respectively. Memphis junior Jennifer Jaszek, who claimed individual honors in 2001 with a three round score of 224, won medalist honors again in 2002 with a score of 219. New Orleans' Crystal Elliers, who turned in scores of 73-71-76, finished second. Leah Hart of Augusta State University placed third at 222, while co-36-hole leader Marianne Ruud of Memphis placed fourth at 223. Lady Tiger freshman Danielle Reilly and senior Abby More tied for ninth at 227. Memphis placed four of its five golfers in the events top ten to win the title for the second consecutive year and the fourth time in the events 22-year history.
