Memphis Finishes Fifth at Cincinnati Fall Classic

BATAVIA, Ohio.--Paced by Marissa Steen's sixth place individual showing, the University of Memphis women's golf team finished fifth at the 2010 Cincinnati Fall Classic. Steen carded scores of 77-74-74 at Elks Run Golf Course to post the 12th top-20 finish of her career. The junior from West Chester, Ohio earned C-USA Golfer of the Week last week after setting a program-low 36-hole total (137) en route to winning the Bobcat Invtational. The Lady Tigers turned in scores of 313-314-305 in the three-day event, good for a fifth-place finish. Florida International turned in scores of 307-295-287 to defeat runner-up Toledo (304-299-297--900) by 11 strokes. Tournament-host Cincinnati (308-305-300--913) and Penn State (305-306-304--915) also finished ahead of Memphis. Sarah Mathews had the second lowest total for the Lady Tigers, finishing in a tie for 27th position with scores of 80-76-79. Alex Aläng posted rounds of 77-82-77 to finish in a tie for 33rd. Kathleen Glavin (79-83-75--237) and Ashley Kees (82-82-79--243) finished in ties for 37th and 51st, respectively. Memphis will return to competition Oct. 11-12 when they travel to Greenville, N.C. to compete in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. Following that event, the Lady Tigers will return to the Bluff City for the Memphis Women's Invitational at Ridgeway Country Club. -www.gotigersgo.com-
