Whisenant Leads Lady Tigers in Mason Rudolph Championship First Round

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Playing in one of the toughest fields in the country, the University of Memphis women’s golf team posted a 321 in the first round of the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship. Ashleigh Whisenant led the Lady Tigers, shooting a four-over 76. Memphis started the day on the back nine, where Whisenant shot a one-over 37 after registering a birdie at the par-four 17th. She then made the turn and birdied the par-four first. The Attalla, Ala., native finished the front nine with a 39, for a total of 76, matching her best round of the season. Julia Hodgson was next, posting a 78, including a two-over 38 on the back nine. Alex Aläng wasn’t far behind Hodgson, shooting an 81. Ashley Kees and Sarah Mathews rounded out the Lady Tigers’ squad as they both posted 86’s. After one round, Texas leads the championship after shooting a 294 while Arizona is second with a 298. The Lady Tigers are currently in 15th place after the first round. Three players are tied for the first round lead after shooting 71, Virginia’s Briana Mao, Michigan State’s Caroline Powers and Wake Forest’s Olafia Kristinsdottir. The Lady Tigers will start second round of the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. Live scoring will be available on golfstat.com.
