HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.- The University of Memphis women's golf team finished strong at the 2006 Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate and grabbed their first top-five finish of the year. Senior Stacey Tate led the Lady Tigers and backed up a solid day one performance with a 4-over-par 76 en route to a 219 (69-74-76) and a tie for 13th place. The Lady Tigers finished with a 54-hole total of 895 (295-299-301), which gave them sole possession of fifth place for the first time this season. Memphis finished three strokes ahead of sixth-place Arkansas-Little Rock and three strokes behind fourth-place UC Davis. The University of Denver used its home course advantage to take first-place by a wide margin. Second-place Brigham Young finished 18 strokes behind the Pioneers. Tate, one of GolfWorld Magazine's Top 50 Female Players to Watch, opened the Ron Moore by firing a first-round 69, tying the fifth-lowest round in school history. The Auckland, New Zealand, native rebounded from a 27th-place showing at the Badger Women's Golf Invitational by recording her 10th career top-20 finish. Senior Cameron Barber, a native of Highlands Ranch, made an impressive final-round charge at her hometown course by carding a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday. Barber's 224 (75-79-70) was good enough to tie for 25th. After notching back-to-back 76's on Monday, junior Dawn-Marie Conaty scored a 5-over-par 77 to finish with a 229 (76-76-77) and tie for 36th.
Sophomore Rachel Larson, a Longmont, Colo., native, finished tied for 40th with a 230 (75-72-83). Meanwhile, senior Kathryn O'Rourke rounded out the Lady Tiger lineup and rebounded from an opening round 80 by scoring a 235 (80-77-78). Memphis faces a quick turnaround this week. After returning home, the Lady Tigers will head to Kentucky for the Lady Wildcat Fall Invitational. The first and second rounds will take place Saturday with the final round set to tee off on Sunday. Shotgun starts for both days are set for 8:30 a.m. (CT). 5 Memphis 895 (295-299-301) T 13 Stacey Tate 219 (69-74-76) 25 Cameron Barber 224 (75-79-70) T 36 Dawn-Marie Conaty 229 (76-76-77) T 40 Rachel Larson 230 (75-72-83) T 55 Kathryn O'Rourke 235 (80-77-78) |
